GREAT job on Being Patient today! Quick note on Rebecca Chopp, the author of "Still Me." (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D4GM5FQS) She has become a friend and we serve together on the Board of "Voices of Alzheimer's" ... her 2023 TED talk was VERY helpful to me in the early months of my diagnosis .... https://youtu.be/JKZcyuZbAKk?si=60KaCWL_aMgJb3x3 ... By the way, I encourage you to check the Voices of Alzheimer's website ... VoA is a prominent, patient-led advocacy organization guiding the movement for prevention, equitable treatment, and care.https://www.voicesofad.com/ ... Onward!

Thanks for watching Luke! I'll check out all three links you provided. It's ironic that Rebecca wrote a book titled "Still Me" which I hadn't heard of until you shared it with me... my original title of my Substack newsletter was "Still Me", but I decided before launching that "I'm Still Me" was more personal and brought the message home more forcefully, otherwise I might have had an unintentional branding conflict there.

Thanks Deb, some days the updates come a little harder than others.

You're the busiest and most active person I've heard worried about "slowing down and wasting time." Remember that each hike, each teaching moment you contribute, each post deserves down time celebrating your successes and then considering their meaning - you give so much to others, thank you for continuing your reports from the field of both nature and AD.

So true Rachel! I just finished hiking 100 miles on the Appalachian Trail in ME with a guy I barely met while hiking down in GA last year. He was struggling to finish his final section of the trail in his vacation time, so I joined him earlier than planned to get him through the hard parts with a friendly face and a bit of drill sergeant approach. He kept saying to me during the 8 days of brutal heat, bugs, rocks, roots, and mountains, "why would someone who barely knows me come out and do this?" We both shed a few tears when we parted ways so I could get home for my next infusion. I felt good knowing I made another good friend, helped him through a really tough section, and we had a lot of laughs in the process. He sent me a picture of a gorgeous sunrise at his camp the next morning and I knew he was on his way!

KUDOS on your Substack posts ... I was diagnoised with early stage Alzheimer's in April 2023 and began Leqembi infusions in September 2023. I look forward to your Being Patient interview. My wife and I were interviewed on Being Patient. I would love to connect with you (I sent a Facebook request). From the title of your Substack, I'm guessing you have read Rebecca Chopp's book titled "Still Me" -- the BEST book about living with an Alzheimer's diagnosis. Onward!

Hi Luke! I haven't heard of that book, but I'll have to look into it. My "I'm Still Me" title came from a particularly tough morning shortly after diagnosis where I had to tell myself that aside from just having been diagnosed with AD, I'm still the same guy I was a few days ago when I was blissfully ignorant to the disease that lurked within and no matter what the disease does to my brain, I'll still be that lovable dope everyone remembers deep down inside. I'll have to search out your interview ... and I already accepted your friend request on FB though I rarely use Metta platforms.
